Tracy has an infectious smile. Seriously, she is always smiling and is so positive and encouraging. I wish we had a thousand more like Tracy. She is full of grace and kindness and just a positive and wonderful role model for her darling little girls.
Meet Tracy Vasquez:
When Jenn started this campaign, it was all about inspiring women. All women, everywhere, every shape, every size, etc…I thought “I’m in!” That is exactly what I want to do with my day, every day, to inspire. She told us to talk about overcoming our personal struggle with body image or to talk about our favorite body part. So the more I thought about it, and the more I listened to the other women in our discussions, I didn’t really feel like I had a story. I never had some huge struggle, never had a really low self image, but don’t really have a part of my body I’m so crazy about that it would be worth writing about.
Truth is, I like myself. Of course, I could be stronger, leaner, meaner, faster, and tighter, but I have never hated myself or my body for it. If anything, not being those things gave me goals, but I can assure you I am comfortable in my own skin.
I grew up active and had a decent self image. I had three kids in less than six years and let myself gain a little too much weight as I fell out of shape. So, once I realized this (after nine years downhill), I worked to get back at it. I was living in Arizona at the time, so I took advantage of the gorgeous weather and started hiking the beautiful desert mountains and started shedding the “baby weight.” I was practicing martial arts 5-6 days a week and had all three of my girls in martial arts from very young ages, my youngest was learning TKD as she was learning to walk. I started taking them on hikes and realized that I was setting a precedence for them. I was setting the example of an active lifestyle so that they wouldn’t know any different.
Oh, and I smile every day. I smile when things are going well and I smile when they aren’t. I smile because it makes me feel better and I know that my smile is contagious and I want everyone’s face to look like that!
I want my girls to smile. I know what a tough world they are growing up into, and I hope, by having me as their mother, they are able to keep a positive light about themselves and their bodies. I thought it would be fun to ask my little ladies what their favorite body part is, I got the following responses:
Idalia (9) said her smile because it makes people around her happy
Solana (7) said her mouth because that is how she tastes all the delicious foods in the word
Amiela (5) said her belly because that is where she keeps her delicious food and because her belly is where people tickle her and make her laugh all the time
I love this so much!!! The innocence of their answers are so perfect! I will continue to workout hard and promote a healthy, fun lifestyle for my ladies. It’s not about me, it’s about what they see me do, what they hear me say, and of course how and what I eat and train. It’s about me setting a positive example loud enough that it’s tough for them to hear society tell them otherwise.
